(Capital Records Management, Account Code: RI00016/RI16; Container Code: RI1012523; Location; H08-01-06-04A; Alternate Code: 1935; FF Description: 7020)
The petition was filed on 22 April 1914, along with a citation to Charles Leslie McIntosh to appear before the court on the first Monday of June 1914 in Providence, Rhode Island. Charles Leslie McIntosh was served the citation on 30 April 1914 by Arthur Sherman, Deputy Sheriff. He did not appear in the Superior Court to contest the divorce petition. A trial date was set and was held on 7 July 1914. Charles Leslie McIntosh did not attend the trial, and the divorce petition was granted to Ellen Louise McIntosh.
After the customary six-month waiting period had elapsed, the final decree of Divorce was granted in the Superior Court of Providence, Rhode Island, on 11 January 1915, “upon the ground of neglect to provide.” And it is further ordered, adjudged, and decreed that the petitioner be and she is hereby awarded the custody of her three minor children, Helen Louise, Charles Albert, and Alfred Frasier McIntosh.”
Ellen Louise is still known as Ellen Louise McIntosh on the 1920 US Census of Rhode Island. At that time, she lived with her mother and sister, Frances. Joseph Connell also lived there as a boarder. Ellen Lousie McIntosh later married Joseph Connell in Fall River, Massachusetts, on 24 September 1921. I am still looking for the marriage registration of Joseph Connell and Ellen Dwyer (McIntosh.
Ellen Louise Dwyer was affectionately known to her great-grandchildren as Nana Connell.
