Thomas F. Monahan was a Major in the U.S. Army. He suffered a tragic fall on July 6, 1965, which necessitated the removal of the right lobe of his brain. This procedure left him without memory; the brain damage allowed him to remember only up to a certain time in his life. He died in the Veterans Hospital in Brockton, Massachusetts, after years of hospitalization. He is buried at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.
