ANDREWS, BARBARA JANE (MORIARTY) of Oak Lawn, Cranston, RI, 83, entered Eternal Life on Monday, December 17, 2012. Having valiantly battled lymphoma and numerous other health issues for several years, as well as the loss of her husband of 61 years, Frederick W. Andrews in February of 2012, she was ready to let go of this life and begin anew.
Mother to six sons, David R. and his wife Joanne of Cranston, Dennis F. and his wife Cheryl of Warwick, Douglas W. of Cranston, Rev. Peter J., Pastor of St. Theresa and St. Christopher Parishes in Tiverton, Matthew P. and his wife Keri of Sayreville, NJ. and Michael J. of Andover, NJ, along with four grandsons, four granddaughters, a great-granddaughter and five great-grandsons, her love and care will be truly missed and forever be appreciated.
Born in Warwick to the late Raymond J. and Mary C. (Dorgan) Moriarty, she was the oldest sister to her siblings Raymond Moriarty of Vero Beach, FL, Nancy Freeman of Bowdainham, ME, and the late Eleanor Booth. While her greatest achievement is her family, her contributions go beyond her home. She was a secretary with the Northern RI Cooperative Extension Service for many, many years, working closely with home economic, agricultural and 4-H projects and organizations throughout the State of RI and most of New England. Her coworkers and associates will remember her generous spirit and willingness to bring success to whatever the task at hand required. She was a talented seamstress whose abilities could be seen clearly in the clothing, liturgical vesture, quilts and home décor that she produced for many. She was active for many years in the Rosary and Altar Sodality at Immaculate Conception Church in Cranston. She and her husband were avid and accomplished ballroom dancers. She will be missed deeply by many friends and family who will always remember her style, grace, wit and genuine caring.
A period of visitation will take place on Friday, December 21, 2012 in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 237 Garden Hills Drive, Cranston, RI, from 8:30-9:30am. A celebration of her life will follow in the church at 10:00am. Burial will take place immediately following in Woodland Cemetery, Knotty Oak Rd. at Washington St. in Coventry, RI. All are invited. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, all who wish to make a donation in Barbara's memory do so to Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association, 200 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719, whose Hospice and Palliative Care services allowed her to live and die with dignity and comfort. Funeral arrangements are made through the generous care of Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, RI. www.murphyfuneralhomes.org
