Notes for Michael DORGAN
Michael is listed as a landowner in the 1914 Guy’s Postal Directory of Carrigtwohill. He owned the renowned Dorgan (O'Deargain) Pub in Cloyne, East County Cork, which he inherited from his brother, Timothy, in 1890. Timothy had previously received the pub from their father, Patrick, who originally acquired it in 1865.
The pub was eventually sold in 1998 and continued to operate as "Auntie Biddie’s" at Nos. 9 and 10 Rock Street, Town Parks, Cloyne, Co. Cork (216492). In 2022, Seanie Costine and his partner, Kerri McCarthy, purchased and renovated the premises, transforming it into a modern, spacious venue featuring many unique elements, now known as The Rock Bar.

The Garde family is believed to have originated in Ballynamona, Shanagarry, East Cork. In the 1901 Irish Census, Johanna, aged 49, is recorded as a widow and head of the household. She is listed as a vintner and grocer, living at House 17, Rock Street, Cloyne, and is literate in both Irish and English.
By the 1911 Census, Johanna remains a widow and is recorded as a shopkeeper at House 10, Rock Street, Cloyne, still proficient in both languages. Her household includes her son Patrick (38, single, farmer), daughter Helena (31, single, barmaid), and first cousin David (26, single, national teacher, son of Timothy Dorgan and Johanna O’Brien).
