Thaddaeus "Tad" Omweg Obituary
Thaddaeus “Tad” Omweg, 52, of North Smithfield, died March 7, 2026, at Landmark Medical Center.  Born in Santa Barbara, CA, he was the son of John W. Omweg, Sr, of Santa Barbara, and Anne Marie Omweg of North Smithfield.  Tad worked in construction at Jimmy J’s Building Corp.  Because of his great love of the outdoors, Tad enjoyed hiking, swimming, camping, and fishing, and he was known for his love of music, movies, comedy, and a good historical book.  Tad was a friend of Bill W.
Laughter was important to Tad, and he had a beautiful gift of the comic, which brought happiness to his family, especially to his children: Devony Omweg of Wappinger Falls, NY; Ocean and Vivienne Tessier of Coventry, and Olivia Tessier of Hartford, CT; his siblings, Gregory Omweg and his wife, Kathaya, of Livermore, CA; Sean Omweg, Jr, of Santa Clara, CA; David Omweg of North Smithfield; Catherine Omweg and her spouse, Jesse Canright of Portland, OR; and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, beginning with a visitation at 4 pm, followed by a service at 7 pm at Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. Burial will be private. Here is a tribute from his sister, Katie Omweg Canright:

I’m sure Tad would have wanted me to take this opportunity to say that of my four brothers, he was by far the funniest.

Tad has always been spirited, kinetic, gifted, creative and perceptive. He was always searching to know more about life, to know joy and mystery, to find healing and to connect with others.

While he was a loving, profound presence in so many people’s lives, he also left his mark in his indelible signatures of: a song and dance for no reason, jokes crafted primarily to please himself, and an ability to change the conversation topic at any time to fishing or camping.

I will always think of Tad’s love for nature, the ocean and fishing. How hard he worked and how much he loved his children. Through many transitions, his love for his family and friends stayed constant.

“A River Runs Through It” is a story that both Tad and I shared a love for. The book and this passage resonates especially for me during this time:

“I sat there and forgot and forgot, until what remained was the river that went by and I who watched... Eventually the watcher joined the river, and there was only one of us. I believe it was the river… Even the anatomy of a river was laid bare. Not far downstream was a dry channel where the river had run once, and part of the way to come to know a thing is through its death. But years ago I had known the river when it flowed through this now dry channel, so I could enliven its stony remains with the waters of memory.”

May the space Tad left in our lives be filled with the waters of his loving memory.

I love you, Tad.

Here is a tribute from his brother, David:

I’m looking for Tad
expecting he’ll show
joyful, loving, fun
the brother I know

where’d he go this time?
the creek, or playing pool?
maybe skate boarding
with buddies from school

he always shows up
we sit on the stairs
asks me about life
reminds me he cares

I love you brother
love hearing your song
when you are around
feel like I belong

Thank you Tad ❤️

Here is a tribute from his aunt, Monica Dorgan Martin:

It's a hard effort to write on this wall, not because many things can not be said about Tad, but the pure fact that he has died is almost so painful as to be unbearable and "death" is not the whole of the pain but more so that his beautiful spirit, his infectious laugh, his raucous humor, his deep reflections, his sense of the ironic, his big bear hugs and his love will not be, in physical form, in my life, in my home and with my family as it has been for so many years and occasions.

The agony of sorrow that ebbs and flows between joyous memories and terrible loss is deep.

Tad, my nephew, shared so many experiences with my family and I. He and his beautiful children, each of whom he loved so intensely, would spend just about every holiday, and many summer cookouts and swimming with my family. He had a great desire for family and extended family being together. He loved the sharing of good times, food and laughter, conversation and prayer - our shared prayer of "Thanks to God" for the joy of each other's company, and to get our fill of good food, good conversation and of the love and the grace of family.
Tad was so known for his wit and humor but he also loved history, he was well read, deeply philosophical and spiritual. His faith journey was intense and moving, for himself but also to me as his aunt. I could not have shared anything more beautiful and humbling with another human being as this. I grew in my own faith as I saw him walk in his steps toward God.
He understood the hardness of life and kept an eye out for those who were in pain, suffering, desiring of direction, who needed hope, caring, love, laughter and brotherhood, of those needing a hand when struggling. He watched and listened as he understood, he also had the experience of feeling, needing and searching for all of those things himself. He didn't do this as a "savior" or a mentor... he did and lived the way he did because he had so much love in him that it was the only way he wanted to exist in this world.
He was not perfect, he was a human being and that comes with imperfection, flaws and disappointments, but his intentions were never to minimize or harm, but to maybe challenge, to push a bit where he might see growth was needed or could be achieved, or to see if there was something on the mind that needed to be shared, or something feared that a person could be encouraged to overcome or be protected from if necessary.

I'm going to miss him,
I'm going to miss the joy he brought to my life, my home my family.
God bless you Tad,
May perpetual Light shine upon you,
May you rest in peace.
May St. Joseph be beside you to walk with you on this new journey into eternity.

Love you forever.
Auntie Monica
