The results of my DNA test are in and amazingly the story I've always understood about the origin on the SHINNICK surname proves to be true. My Y-DNA Haplogroup (R-M269) is the same as "Nial of the Nine Hostages" - proving Helen Shinnick's research was correct. Also - the earliest origin of my mt-DNA Haplogroup is found in the area of Europe which is now Austria. This info also jives with the story that our ancestors were mercenaries that traveled to Spain from Germany and from Spain to Ireland to work protecting Catholic Church Property. - Tom
