Notes for Gerard MOTHERWAY
The name Motherway probably originated from the Huguenots who came over from persecution in France to the town of Ballymacoda.
Gerry was born in Dorgan’s Pub on Rock Street, Cuain Uamha (The Meadow of Caves), Cloyne, East County Cork, Ireland.
He played “soccer” (yes, soccer!) and hurling with the national hero, Christy Ring.
Gerry taught his three younger siblings. He got his teaching degree three months after his mother died.

THE OBITUARY:
GERRY (Gerard) MOTHERWAY (Blackrock, Cork, formerly of Cloyne and former teacher at Douglas Community School). On April 9th 2023 passed away peacefully under the wonderful care of the staff of Beaumont Residential Home, Cork. Loving father of Ella, Ronan and Vincent, Grandfather of Emma, Liam, Olivia, Cillian and Holly. Brother of the late Frank. Sadly missed by his loving family, sister and brothers Anne (McCarthy), Niall, Billy and John, his former wife Goretti Motherway (née Nolan), all his extended family and friends.

Gerry will repose at Hyde’s Funeral Home, Drury’s Avenue, Midleton on Thursday 13th from 5pm-6.30pm.
Requiem Mass on Friday 14th in St. Colman’s Church, Cloyne at11am, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
