Wow,

This is so up my alley. I majored in Secondary Education, Social Sciences—I have always loved history and research. I am currently a principal at Anson Jones Middle School in San Antonio. I taught history for eight years before going into school administration.

Here is some of our family history:

Mom married William Redmond Staats in 1966 and divorced circa 1971. She then married John Edward Pompey in 1972 (?). They divorced around 1989. John was an important part of our lives. He coached us in softball/baseball and attended many of our games. She married both my dad and John in El Paso. She has been married to Ricky Roll for about 13 years. He has two sons—Justin and Michael.

His parents were Redmond C. Staats Jr. and Carroll McGrath.

My grandmother Carroll's family originates from Ireland. I believe they have been in America since the 1850s.

My grandfather's family is Dutch/German. His family started their American journey in Oregon and Idaho.

My grandparents grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area—Grandma hails from San Francisco and Grandpa hails from Berkeley. They met at the University of California, Berkeley. That is also where my father received his degree.

My grandfather was appointed California Superior Court Judge by Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren. Apparently, there is a family history there. My great-grandfather, Redmond Staats Sr., and Earl Warren went to law school together. My grandfather was the judge in the "Black Panther" trials in the 1960s.

My grandmother's family worked for the original Bank of America.

My dad would love to hear from you. His email is billstaats@aol.com. His wife Karen, has done some research on my grandfather's and grandmother's families.

My brother, Timothy William Staats, was born in San Jose on April 23, 1967. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1989 and became a Navy pilot the following year. He now flies for Southwest Airlines.

He married Gloria Vasquez Staats in December 1990 in Pensacola, Florida. Gloria is originally from Puerto Rico.

They have two sons—Dylan Redmond Staats, born Dec. 31, 1993, and Brandon Lorenzo Staats, born Sept. 23, 1999.

I was born on February 18, 1969, in Los Gatos, California (next to San Jose).

I graduated from Tennessee Tech University in 1991 and then moved to Texas and never looked back.

I married Ramiro Reyes on July 17, 1993, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in San Antonio.

Joshua Felipe Reyes was born Feb. 20, 1997, and Kaitlyn Cecilia Reyes was born Nov. 30, 2006.

My mom's family did not fare as well after my grandfather's accident. This is when my mom married and left El Paso. Grandma struggled to raise the kids on her own. We stayed in touch over the years; however, it was spotty. Here is what I know:

Uncle Tommy married and had two sons with Linda Ramirez. They lived in Midland while the kids were young. Andy Monahan is the oldest and works on the oil rigs in Texas. Andy has two children. His second son is Matthew. Matthew is about 31 years old. He is married to Leslie Gomez, and they just had a little girl, Madison Hope. They live in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Matt and I try to stay in touch and usually see each other twice a year. I will forward him the info on the website. Uncle Tommy and Aunt Linda divorced when the kids were in school. Tommy has another son who is about 11. They reside in Nashville.

Lynne Anne has two sons—Tommy and Michael. Tommy lives in San Diego. I am not sure about Michael.

Kenneth—married once, but divorced shortly after.

Kenny, Tommy, and Grandma live in Nashville near my mom.

We did go to your dad's house while we were in Providence. He showed us the room that your brother was remodeling for him. I love the Providence neighborhoods—there is a sense of community and history there.

I would love to help you with any information that you need. My mom is the one who told me about the website and loves it. She did tell me about how some have issues with "embarrassments." However, we are fascinated with all of the histories. It really speaks to the "culture" of the times indicated—immigrants not wanting to let others know that they were not born in the U.S. As a principal of a largely Hispanic and immigrant community, I see similar patterns.
