Notes for Liam DORGAN
Liam Dorgan owned and operated Dorgan's (O'Dargain's) Pub in Cloyne. It had been in the Dorgan Family since the mid-1800s. The Pub was sold in 2002 and was called Aunty Biddy's. It was sold again and is now called The Rock.

LIAM DORGAN
Cloyne, Cork
LIAM DORGAN "Suaimhneas", Garryowen, Cloyne, Co Cork (formerly of Dorgan’s Bar and Irish Life).
Liam passed away peacefully on February 12th, 2025, in his 99th year, surrounded by his family, in the care of the wonderful staff of Cork University Hospital.
Beloved husband of the late Mary (nee Harney) and loving father of Therese (Cahill), Michael, Ann, Liam, and Colm. Predeceased by his sisters Anne (Barry) and Ella (Motherway) and his brothers Michael and Philly.
Sadly missed by his family, sons-in-law Donie and Brendan, daughters-in-law Ellen, Ann, and Julie, his 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Anne, Nora, and Josephine; brother-in-law Dick; nephews, nieces, extended family, and a wide circle of friends.
Reposing in Hyde's Funeral Home, Drury’s Avenue, Midleton P25 VW02 on Friday, 14th February from 5 pm to 7 pm, followed by reception into St. Colman’s Church, Cloyne.
Requiem Mass at 12 pm on Saturday, 15th February, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
I wrote this in his condolence book:
He was a wonderful man. He was magical. I spent three days with him and Mary 20 years ago. It’s a funny story. I was staying in Ballycotton. I had rented a cottage within walking distance of Magrath’s. I walked into the post office, and the lady said, “You’re new. You must be American. Who are you?” I said, “I’m Bill Dorgan”. She said,” You must be related to Liam.” I said,” Yes, I’m trying to find them.” She said, Well if you’re a religious man, you’ll see him at the 8 o’clock mass tomorrow morning at St Colman’s.” Sure enough I went there, and there he and Mary were. They “recognized” me, even though we had never met. Immediately, they took me to their home and fed me. And that’s how it was for two or three days. Liam took me to Ballymacoda Hilltop cemetery, where the ancient DORGANs are buried. I’ll never forget it. He took a bucket and a brush to make sure the headstone was well scrubbed. And then, of course, we talked about the old people. I was fascinated. I was sad to leave. I was the first in my line of the DORGANs to return to IRELAND since they left in the 1890s. May he and Mary, now side by side at St Colman’s cemetery, rest eternal in peace. ❤️☘️❤️
